Scharein was born in 1949 in Bassum/Lower Saxony and lives in Berlin. From 1969 to 1979, he studied art education at different academies of art: in Hamburg with Fritz Seitz and Bazon Brock, in Saarbrücken with Oskar Holweck, and with Jonannes Geccelli and Herbert Kaufmann in Berlin, where he eventually became a master student. During 1979 and 1981, he passed his first and second state exams as an art teacher. From 1981 to 1983, he received a studio scholarship from the Karl Hofer Society. He has worked as a freelance painter since 1988. Scharein's works are exhibited in numerous public collections, such as those of the German Bundestag, the Federal Cartel Office, the Ludwigshafen Hacke Museum and the Heidenheim Museum. Further exhibition venues include the Daimler Art Collection, the Hoppe-Ritter collection, the collection of the Hubertus Schoeller Foundation, the IBM collection, the Piepenbrock collection, the Pietzsch collection, the collection of the Stuttgart State Gallery as well as many private collections.
